Many people think that Kibera is a sad place to live.
Every time the name is mentioned, they shrink and think of slums where there is no food or water or clothes to dress.
They pity everyone living there, especially children.
However, Kibera is not what they think.
Contrary to the common belief, Kibera children grow up among the happiest kids in the city. This is why:
1. They don't compare themselves
Unlike kids in the posh estates who mingle with a wide range of people and get the opportunity to compare themselves, Kibera kids do not have that luxury of outer interractions. They therefore don't know which toys they miss or which luxuries their parents have not provided. SO they live happy knowing what they have is all they need.
2. Community
Kibera kids live as a community. They always play together and go to school together. This is unlike n the other estates where children remain indoors and lack the opportunity for socialising.
3. Fun areas
Kids in Kibera can access places of fun on their own. They will freely walk through the estate looking for what gives them fun. Kids in other areas have to wait for the day their parents will be free so as to go out on a picnic.
