Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has expressed confidence of trouncing flamboyant Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko in the battle for the City's top seat during the August polls.
In a telephone interview with the Star Newspaper on Friday, Kidero claimed that Sonko does not have the political clout to unseat him, adding that he was least worried about Sonko's candidature.
“I am not surprised. All along we knew Sonko was going to be our competitor. So we are not worried and Nairobians will prove that in August,” he said.
“Sonko and Jubilee are not popular in Nairobi. If you look at their primaries for instance, only about 300,000 people participated and in 2013, over 500,000 people participated in ODM primaries. That shows you which party is stronger,” he added.
The County chief further noted that he is prepared to face off with the legislator, pledging a bruising battle during the August polls.
“Our level of preparedness is determined by who our competitor is. It is determined by the urban integrated development plan that we have developed,” he noted.
Sonko is expected to vie on a Jubilee Party ticket after beating former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth during the primaries.
Kidero will be vying on an ODM Party ticket.
