Regardless of that, a lot of Kikuyu comrades still find it hard to let go such relationships or marriages. Have you ever posed to think why it is so?

Here is why some Kikuyus would rather suffer in such a relationship than leave.

When you are sharing a business

It is not logical to leave behind what you have been working for years. Kikuyus work so hard to come up with a business to sustain the family in terms of finances and no one is ready to leave after toiling together.

Adjusting to normal life after leaving an abusive relationship is an uphill struggle. Who wants to start from square zero while at square ten?

Judgment

Some are just staying in a messy relationship because of how people will judge them especially when the relationship is not their first one. They fear being blamed.

Fear

This makes leaving an abusive relationship tough. Starting from the fear of the unknown to fear of making it worse when you leave. There is this swahili saying that goes like " Heri ibilisi umjuaye kuliko malaika usiyemjua" (better a devil you know than an angel you don't know. They fear the uknown.

Ignorance

Some of them just do not know that they are in an abusive relationship. If you cannot know the disease then you cannot come up with its cure. If your man is ever drunk and abusive that is one example of an abusive relationship.

Children

It is harder for many to leave an abusive relationship when they have children. Kikuyus are known for their good parenting abilities all over. Many parents especially women prefer staying in abusive relationships to see their children livein happiness.
