Likoni constituency is on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) radar as a region likely to experience violence during the upcoming general election.
According to The Standard, IEBC official Julius Karimi termed the region a violence hotspot going by the recent happenings.
"The area has been characterised by threats and gangs that have been instilling fear in residents. Elections are a few days away and we would like Kenyans to prepare for what might happen. People have severally been robbed in Likoni, which is a bad sign," said Karimi.
He spoke during a forum at Likoni Social Hall where he urged residents to maintain peace during the elections.
The electoral body official at the same time asked security agencies to increase patrols and deal with criminal gangs.
There have been leaflets circulated by unknown people asking non-locals to vacate the area before the August 8 polls.
Police are yet to arrest any suspects over the incident, the daily added.
Likoni deputy county commissioner Erick Wamulevu has said the area is one of the violence hotspots but noted that they are ready for the polls.
"Likoni has been mapped out as one of the violence hotspots. But we have all we need to ensure there will be no violence. And we have asked aspirants be careful unless someone wants to rot at Shimo La Tewa," he said.
