A civil society group, the International Policy Group wants the Auditor General Edward Ouko removed from office accusing him of flouting public procurement rules.
In a petition filed at the National Assembly, the group has accused Ouko of flouting procurement laws and abuse of office, noting that they deduce this from an investigation report by the EACC that recommended Ouko be charged with the two offences.
“In their investigations, the EACC recommended that the Auditor-General be charged with abuse office and willful failure to comply with procurement laws,” Capitalfm.co.ke quoted part of the group's petition.
The group further accused the Director of Public Prosecutions of failing to satisfactorily address the matter.
In October 2016, a detailed investigation report claimed that the Auditor General irregularly procured an audit vault software whose price was allegedly inflated by Sh82 million.
According to capitalfm.co.ke, the initial cost of the software was Sh18,000 but was purchased at Sh100,000.
Ouko's term in office is set to end in 2019 and can only be removed from office through a tribunal.
