The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has challenged Jubilee Party to take action against Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko for utterances he made on Sunday during an interview when he reffered Peter Kenneth as an albino.

In a statement on Tuesday, the human rights body argued that the Senator's remarks amounted to a gross violation of the constitution on which the legislator swore an oath to abide by.

“The contemptible reference to [Kenneth] as an albino by [Sonko] goes beyond the basic tenets of decorum, appropriateness, and courtesy by a leader,” KNCHR chair Kagwiria Mbogori noted.

“The commission takes great exception to the Senator’s utterances and brings to his attention that person with albinism in Kenya and globally, faces some challenges of the most extreme forms of human rights violations," she added.

Kagwiria further challenged politicians to exercise self-restraint and decorum ahead of the August polls.

The flamboyant Senator has since apologised over the remarks, claiming that he was angry when he made them.
