Members of the Luo community are always perceived to be proud and full of positive ego.
They are also known for their high-end lifestyle and favoritism of unique types and brands of products, especially expensive ones, subjecting them to the "Ujaluo ni gharama" informal saying.
Here are some of the reasons that make Luos feel on top of the world.
1. Fame and global representation
Luos have for a long time now been over represented in the global field, especially in the leadership and sports worlds.
By associating themselves with former U.S President Barrack Obama, a son of Nyanza, they get an understandable feeling of importance.
Similarly, Luos are fully represented in the international football arena with the likes of Liverpool's Divock Origi and his Girona counterpart Ogada Olunga hailing from Nyanza.
Also in the list is Oscar Award winner and American leading actor Lupita Nyong'o, a daughter of Kisumu county.
2. Deep culture
They have remained deeply rooted in their culture despite the changing times and the entrance of technology and Western civilization.
Joluo remain one of the few Kenyan communities that have prevented their ancient norms from being eroded, norms that are until now passed down to the new generation, further increasing their pride.
3. Their role in the Kenyan politics
Almost every Luo wants to be associated with the Odinga family over its long-time presence and involvement in the Kenyan political arena.
They want to share in Jaramogi Odinga's contribution to Kenyan independence and his son and current opposition leader Raila Odinga's struggle for second liberation and a huge national following.
They also dominate the boxing, rugby and weightlifting fields.
