All M-Pesa services are set to be unavailable for a period of four hours on Sunday, August 27, due to a planned upgrade.
In a statement, Bob Collymore, Chief Executive Officer of Safaricom, said the disruption will be on during the morning hours of 12.30 am to 4.30 am to prevent inconveniences of M-Pesa users.
“This upgrade has been scheduled with due consideration of our customers’ comfort to result in the least inconvenience. We expect all services to be restored and M-Pesa to be fully functional following the process,” the statement read as quoted by the Star.
On June 30, Safaricom had announced that it will be conducting a major upgrade of the M-Pesa platform.
As a result of the upgrade process, a number of M-Pesa services will be sequentially withdrawn in the lead to the changeover.
The new M-Pesa platform paves the way for Safaricom to roll out more features and enhancements on the service to the more than 26 million M-Pesa customers.
Among the new features that customers can look forward to include M-Shwari and KCB M-PESA implementation in the Safaricom App.
Following the upgrade, M-Pesa customers are set to benefit from an increase in the number of partners offering their services on the enhanced M-Pesa platform.
