Raila's right-hand man Farah Maalim could be one of the most powerful political icons from Garissa County if the strategic plan by the opposition reaches a successful end after the 2017 elections.
In their new proposal, Raila's strategists are working on a formula to bring together all the Opposition chiefs ahead of next year’s poll, while rooting for the reintroduction of the position of a powerful Prime Minister and his two Deputies.
The opposition team of strategists has also proposed that the current Constitution be amended to pave way for the three positions in a provision that will also change the present Presidential system of governance to a parliamentary system.
With the arrangement, the Opposition will have at least nine key positions to distribute among their top leadership in the event they happen form the next administration.
If this plan succeeds, it is obvious that the Deputy PM could be picked from Kalonzo, Wetangula and Mudavadi if the NASA establishment is finalized.
Under the two deputies, there shall also be other very powerful positions in the ministries and parastatals where Farah Maalim might be offered a space to hold. However, the plan is subject to Raila winning the next presidential elections.
In this context, the National Super Alliance (NASA) that will united cord opposition and the Mudavadi-led party wants to position itself as a prime formation that is more inclusive and that can provide more opportunities to its top leadership as compared to the ruling Jubilee Party.
