Even as the clock ticks faster towards the 2017 election period, the vibrant Garissa township parliamentary hopeful Farah Maalim has sounded a distress call, claiming that the forthcoming elections shall be rigged by the Jubilee party.
This early cry can be interpreted as a way of conceding defeat way long before the voting exercise kicks off.
Making such allegations may antagonize the electorate, given the fact that he and his biggest rival Aden Duale enjoy almost proportional share of the regional votes.
Maalim, via his twitter handle claimed that the NYS projects in the constituency is a scam project by the government to sway the electorate in their favour.
His claims may easily be discarded since the the National Youth service is under the national government, which has the full mandate to establish a project at any given constituency.
However, his allegations should not neglected since if it happens that the aspiring MP loses in the next elections, he may fail to accept the election outcomes thus raising discontent between his supporters and those of the incumbent Aden Duale.
The IEBC should also clearly come out and explain the claims that the biometric kits being used the the NYS clerks belong to them. The elections agency is an independent body that should not in any way be swayed to give due advantage to any individual or even a political party.
