Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi is in a political limbo following increasing resistance of Jubilee Party in Gusii region.
Having ditched ODM for Jubilee, Maangi has been subjected to public criticism with a section of residents humiliating him in public functions.
Last year during Nyacheki by elections, the inaugural deputy had to run for his live during campaign with ODM youths accusing him of betrayal.
And in a dramatic change on events, Maangi who had declared his gubernatorial ambitions, vowed to work with his boss James Ongwae, a close ally of Raila Odinga.
“I have no issue with Ongwae and I always work with him. I may have wronged you but that is politics and we have to help each other,” he said last week during a burial ceremony in Kitutu Chache.
But political analyst Abaya Ondigi says Maangi’s dramatic change of heart could be guided by his 2022 plans.
“He is young and knows Ongwae could retain the seat. He may not be on ballot but would support Ongwae fort his 2022 bid,” he said.
Maangi is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and has often attended functions with the country’s second in command.
Having been expelled from ODM party, Maangi is understood to have appealed the decision.
