Mr Maangi who was elected on ODM ticket has been at loggerheads with party’s senior officials and was at some time relinquished of his Organizing Secretary post due to his perceived support for Jubilee government.

And a source who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the two enjoyed close relationship while at the University of Nairobi in the early 90s.

“I have seen ODM party question Mr Maangi's association with the government and I want to reveal today that the two have been very close since our days at the University of Nairobi,” said the source.

“They used to sleep in the same cube and even share the little they had. Their friendship dates back to 90s and I don’t think Maangi can support a faction that Ruto is not a member,” added the source who also revealed that the DP at one time paid air ticket for Maangi for his oversea studies in America.

And when questioned about the relationship, Maangi could neither deny nor admit but insisted that he was ready to work with open minded Kenyans.

“The DP is my friend but in politics, you can be in different parties. What is important though are ideas that conform to openness in our society,” he said.
