Machakos town MP Victor Munyaka has urged politicians across political divide to halt 2022 succession politics.
Addressing the press at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Wednesday, Munyaka said it is selfish for politicians to prematurely engage in 2022 campaigns.
Munyaka said the country might not realize her development agenda if politicians continue to propagate the campaigns.
"It is unfair for politicians to continue engaging in 2022 debates and campaigns when they should be discharging services to Kenyans," Munyaka said.
Munyaka asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to step in and put a stop to succession politics.
He said the country is already in an electoral mood as a result of the 2022 succession debates and proposal for referendum.
Munyaka said those calling for referendum are not being realistic, adding that the exercise would be a waste of time and resources.
"I don't think as at now we need a constitutional review and politician's advocating for these must stop and focus on service delivery," Munyaka said.
A section of politicians led by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua have been quoted calling for the constitutional amendment.
However, some politicians led by Deputy President William Ruto have hit out at those championing for constitutional referendum terming the move as unnecessary.
