Maize farmers from the North Rift region have raised concerns over delays in payments of their produce delivered to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).The farmers have also expressed worries over the slow pace in which the NCPB is receiving their produce.Speaking at the Eldoret NCPB silo on Friday, the farmers led lamented that an earlier agreement that payments be made within 24 hours of the produce delivery was never implemented."We were told that once maize is delivered payments will be made within a day but as we speak now they have paid for up to December 4 only," said Amos Kemboi, a farmer from Ziwa.Similar sentiments were shared by the Uasin Gishu Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) director Kipkorir Menjo."Most of the farmers here depend on this produce to cater for their family needs. We are now approaching January where schools open if nothing is done them most of us are headed for a financial crisis," Menjo said. This comes even as hundreds of lorries delivering maize at the Eldoret NCPB silo are still lining up on a queue of about 3 kilometres. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Uasin Gishu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
