Kitui Governor Dr Julius Malombe will be defending his seat in the forthcoming general polls after he trounced Senator David Musila during Wiper nominations.
Despite Musila crying foul over the exercise and opting to walk away from the political outfit ahead of the August polls, Malombe was given the ticket to contest for the seat. The governor will be squaring it out with Former Lands Minister Charity Kaluki Ngilu in one of the most watched races.
Malombe stands a high chance of beating Ngilu when that time comes. The governor is contesting on Wiper ticket, which is the most influential party in this part of the nation.
Malombe has received the support of all Wiper MPs in the area including the likes of Makali Mulu (Kitui Central), Mutua Muluvi (Kitui East), Mr Nyenze (Kitui West) and Charles Nyamai (Kitui Rural) among others. Ngilu will have an uphill tasks to unseat Malombe with this support he has been accorded.
The governor’s performance scoreboard is also impressive. Despite the fact that Musila was launching attack after attack against the incumbent, he has initiated several projects in the region in various sectors including infrastructure, health and education.
The incumbent also shares a good relationship with Wiper Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. The residents of Ukambani love the former vice president as much as he agreed to play second fiddle to Cord leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
On the other hand, Ngilu has also insisted that she is the best replacement for Malombe come August 8.
