United States President Barrack Obama's grandmother Mama Sarah Obama was among VIPs invited by President Uhuru Kenyatta to attend Mashujaa Day celebrations in Machakos. This, however, did not happen.

Mama Sarah is said to have opted not to travel as she could be viewed as a traitor by Luo people.

Nicholas Rajula, who is the Obama family spokesperson said Mama Sarah opted not to travel to attend the events at the height of campaigns for 2017 polls reports the Star.

Rajula further said Mama Sarah was not only invited to the Machakos event but she was to go to State House after the celebrations in Machakos.

"Mama already knows that President Uhuru is battling it out with Raila Odinga thus she cancelled the trip for fear of being branded a mole," he said.

"She turned down the invitation she received two months before to save her reputation."

According to Rashuja, the family was not ready to support initiatives that will lead to accusations of betrayal of the Luo community.

Mama Sarah Obama was recognised on October 20, as a hero.
