According to National Assembly Minority Leader, John Mbadi and Majority Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali in an interview with the daily Nation MPs view transport as a very important area for economic development and that is why many legislators want to get to it.
“There is nothing unusual about MPs lobbying to be in certain committees, I believe they do so in good faith. Generally MPs are concerned with the state of roads in their constituencies hence the interest in the Committee for transport,” Mbadi said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The vocal ODM chair words were echoed by Mumias MP Benjamin Washiali saying that Members of the August House always look for areas that benefit their constituents and roads offer this opportunity hence intense lobbying for membership of Committee for transport.
“As an MP you have to fight for something that will benefit your people and if you are in the national Assembly, that would be roads and that’s why the Committee is popular,” Washiali said.
