The position of Chief Justice of Kenya is open for applicants to all Kenyans after the early retirement of the former CJ Dr Willy Mutunga. Application deadline for applicants it is today Friday, July 8, 2016.
There are some leaders who have served in government who have applied for the post but chances for them to take offices are minimal due to some reasons.
The position of Chief Justice is not political. Therefore, anyone who engages in politics whether a member of any organized political party or not should not be allowed into office to serve as the CJ.
A person to take office should not be associated with politics in any way. Therefore, Former National Assembly speaker Kennedy Marende and Prof Makau Mutua may find it difficult to take office of the CJ.
Professor Mutua as is known as a fierce Jubilee government critic who hates President Uhuru Kenyatta with passion.
On the other hand, Hon Marende has been Raila Odinga's lawyer for many years and has since last year changed his political allegiance to Jubilee after defecting from Cord after being given a job by the ruling coalition.
This means the two will be vetted out due to their political engagement.
