Marsabit Assembly Speaker Mathew Loltome was elected unopposed after his competitor failed to return their application forms in good time.
Hassan Mohammud was not shortlisted for the post after delaying with the papers, allowing Lotome to be declared the winner of the election by Assembly clerk Mohammud Kalaya without the Members of the county Assembly (MCA) voting for him.
The new speaker promised to serve both the minority and majority without fear or favor, further assuring them that he will push for the passing of motions that will benefit the residents.
The lawmaker pledged to unite the county assembly and executive for better service delivery during his term.
“As an assembly, we will work closely with the executive to ensure our county achieves its development goals,” he said, as quoted by Star.
The new speaker also thanked the MCAs for the support they have accorded him until he was elected and voters for backing women and men for different seats during the last general elections. He further reminded them to focus on building the county saying elections are gone.
