Education CS Fred Matiang'i.( photo/Standardmedia)For far too long, we have kept on sinking deep into the abyss of tribe and mediocrity as a nation to the extent that every village has had the audacity to demand that one of their own should head all manner of institutions within their locality.
The Education sector has suffered immensely as a result of massive localization of schools with Principals and teachers often operating from the comfort of their ancestral homes thus dealing a major blow to national unity drives.
Those who were present in the 1970s and 1980s will note with pride that it was the array of teachers from various regions of our country who dotted our villages offering valuable service that impacted society and the nation of Kenya.
Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has already moved ahead to reshuffle teachers to move them away from their village fiefdoms.
Like fish, they have to learn to swim in new waters where they have to use their best skills to survive the axe without the usual shield of " one of our own".
From now on , Principals and teachers will work hard in new challenging environments where the yardstick of merit will be used to measure them. We must all support CS Matiang'i in his bid to create a rainbow nation in our schools. Keep it up brother Matiang'i.
