Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's possible entrance in active politics is certainly a miscalculation.
He has since accepted an endorsement by a section of leaders drawn from his Gusii backyard to deputize Deputy President William Ruto in his 2022 presidential search.
This, however, will kill Ruto's bid, thanks to Matiang'i's semi-dictatorial behavior, apparent in his tough authoritative operation mode, worsened by the recent mistreatment of National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna right under his nose.
Their joint candidature will, therefore, scare away voters who cannot imagine how dire the situation can be should he ascend to the second top-most position, if he can openly oversee human rights and the Kenyan constitution violation in his current lower post.
Having spearheaded the confrontation between the anti-riot police and opposition leaders and supporters during the anti-IEBC demonstrations in Nairobi, going ahead to brag that he has enough teargas to suppress the push, he will be unable to appeal to the leaders' supporters whose votes Ruto badly needs.
He is also shouldering the remaining blame heaped on the police force, including the several deaths and injuries that were reportedly caused by the officers in the post August 8 presidential election unrest in some opposition backyards, with the government yet to either address or compensate the affected families, making him a villain among a section of Kenyans.
Lastly, Matiang'i remains politically illiterate and does not have any political say or appeal has not held any elective post. He, therefore, lacks the touch and will have it impossible pulling any votes towards the DP in the contest, resulting to a terrible failure.
