The Uasin Gishu county Assembly has passed a motion asking the county government through the Department of Culture and Social services to identify personalities and heroes in the county and recognize them through awards.
While moving the motion, Cheptiret/Kapchamo ward representative Gilbert Tenai lamented that heroes in the county had been forgotten "yet they did a lot to the county and country at large".“I want to call upon the executive to implement this motion since it will be like an award to our heroes. People such as Kipchoge Keino should be recognized since they gave us exemplary performance during their time,” said Tenai who is also the Assembly's deputy majority Chief Whip.“The heroes also deserve complimentary parking for their contribution. We should give them a certificate having the county logo to show that they have been recognized by Uasin Gishu county government,” he added.Ng'enyilel MCA David Singoei who is a former international athlete supported the motion saying many of the heroes are now forgotten by young generation hence need for the county government to recognize them.“It’s sad that European Countries recognize our athletes more than we do which is very wrong. We should first recognize them so that others follow. I call upon his governor Jackson Mandago to ensure this motion is implemented for our heroes to benefit,” said Sing'oei.“If we want our generation to be respected we should honor our heroes,” he added. To be the first to get updates on breaking and trending news in Kenya, send your WhatsApp number to 074094990.
