There is need to upscale father-to-father dialogues in order to eradicate mother and child health related ignorance in the society.
This is according to residents of Mshomoroni in Kisauni Sub-county. The residents were among the beneficiaries of an outreach community sensitization programme organised by European Union funded NGO - KANCO in partnership with the County Government of Mombasa.
The forum, targeting residents drawn from different areas of Kisauni and Nyali sub-counties saw over 100 men turnout for the dialogue on Wednesday. This is among the series of sensitization programmes under the 'Pwani Lishe Bora initiative' which aims at improving health standards in the County.
The forum spearheaded by Charles Kimani, a nutritionist at Mlaleo Health Centre together with KANCO Nutrition Advocacy Officer Martina Adega, saw a rapid transformation on the group in terms of what they were not aware of pertaining mother and child health issues.
The group was informed of the importance of accompanying their spouses for antenatal visits with an emphasis on the minimum number of the visits being put at 4.
Importance of psychological support to the expectant mother, nutritional value foods for both the mother and child and some of the social pregnancy myths were extensively addressed during the dialogue.
