The Jubilee administration has given the self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna a lot of popularity not just in Kenya but across the globe by locking him in the cells for a week before exiling him to a foreign state.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto did exactly what the “general has been forcing them to do.
Police broke into his Runda home arrested and locked the activist-cum-lawyer at Githunguri police station for one week, refused to grant him a bail as directed by the high court judge Luka Kimaru and more fundamentally deported him to Canada.
I agree with the ministry of interior security there may be some legal issues surrounding the Kenya passport of Miguna but why now? Was this the right time to deport him? Why deport him after he has participated in the Oathing of NASA chief Raila Odinga?
By doing so, the government has elevated the barrister to the level of senior counsel James Orengo who didn’t need a poster leave alone campaigning to win the Siaya senatorial position.
We are living in a country where for you to “Sell” politically you have to either be a passionate critique of the former prime minister or his die-hard supporter and Miguna has proved to be the later.During the 2017 general elections, Miguna was a critique of Mr Odinga, he failed miserably in the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
Now, wait until 2022, if he will declare an interest in the same spot he will have a field day for the mere fact that he demonstrated he can die for Raila Odinga.
Miguna will be back soon but this time round more powerful and electable, this you can take to the bank.
James Orengo contested for the presidency in 1992, that is not the story the story is, he was contesting among other candidates his community kingpin Raila Odinga.
He failed terribly not just in the presidency but also in the parliamentary seat.
That was awoken up call to the siaya senator because he comes back home and started dancing to the tune of Ongwambo tibbim, since then he has never lost in any election at whatever position he contests.
Miguna is now no different to the Orengo, he will be Nairobi’s third governor if he still wants to be.
