Mombasa Women Rep Mishi Mboko has said she did not defend her seat in the forthcoming general election because she wanted to create room for other women to showcase their leadership skills.Speaking during an exclusive interview with Standard Digital Entertainment, Mboko said there are many women who want to lead but lack a platform to do so.“As a role model for women in political leadership, I had to pave way for another woman to increase our numbers in Parliament,” said Mboko, as quoted by the daily. Mboko also said she has been empowered, adding that time had come for her to seek a higher post in the government. “Also, the Women Rep position is an affirmative action seat. Therefore, after you are empowered, you must mentor and bring others on board to further our agenda as women in politics in this country,” she said. Speaking on clinching the ODM ticket for Likoni MP, Mboko said she has had an impressive performance record since taking over power in 2013.“I won because I am a servant leader close to my electorate. I have also done a lot of work towards empowering fellow women, the youth and people living with disability,” she added.
