Nyali MP Mohamed Ali was on Friday summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mombasa, where he recorded a statement over his victory in the August 8 general polls.Ali, a former KTN investigative journalist was questioned for 30 minutes over the matter. Speaking after recording the statement, Ali criticised the police, accusing them of probing him over a non-existent case. The MP accused the officers of being used by his rivals to cook evidence in a bid to nullify his win.“They will not succeed. There is no case. Someone is cooking evidence. Police are involved,” said Ali, as quoted by The Star.“I find it suspect to have been summoned a month after the poll. It shows how police and their sponsors are desperately trying to build to build a non-existent case,” he added.Police at the station said they have launched a probe into the constituency's elections which they said were marred by malpractices. They also said they are pursing the culprits who were involved in the malpractices that may have affected the constituency’s results. This comes after Ali accused Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s elder brother Abu Joho of frustrating his leadership by coercing women and a section of his supporters to admit they were involved in electoral malpractices that saw him clinch the seat.Abu has since denied the claims, terming them as petty.Ali clinched the seat after garnering 26,798 votes. Joho’s cousin Said Abdalla came in second with 16,473 votes.
