Moi Girls’ High School Eldoret is one of the best schools in Kenya named after the former president Daniel Moi and known for both academic and co-curriculum triumph.
The school was started as a primary school back in 1928 to offer education to white settlers' children and was named the European primary School and later renamed Highlands Primary School.
Moi Girls’ Eldoret almost became a college but the move to make it a teacher training college in 1930’s was never successful which led to the admission of girls and hence the change of name to New Girl’s High school in 1954 and was later renamed The Highlands School.
Most of the beautiful buildings in the national school were built during the period of the change to girls high school to offer education to the white settlers’ daughters.
The first African students were admitted after Kenya got its independence where new members of the Board of Management were appointed with the former president Moi becoming the chairman of the board.
In order to honor the longest-serving chairman of the Board of Management who became the longest-serving Kenyan president, the school’s name was changed from The Highlands School to Moi Girls’ School Eldoret in 1978.
