With majority lauding the meeting, there are others who think that the meeting was a plot to undermine Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

A section of politicians allied to DP Ruto has been quoted warning Raila to stop using the handshake to undermine DP Ruto’s 2022 bid.

Raila has however dismissed claims that the meeting was a plot to undermine Ruto.

The former prime minister notes that he visited Moi to say ‘pole’ after the retired president underwent a knee survey in Israel a few weeks ago.

However, the majority of political analysts have dismissed Raila’s claim noting that his meeting at Kabarak had everything to do with the 2022 succession politics.

According to Mary Mbuthia, a political lecturer at a local Private University in Kiambu, Raila’s meeting with Moi was all about 2022.

Mbuthia argues that Raila is trying to mend ways with the former retired president who he often rubbed shoulders with.

She notes that Moi could be Raila’s only political saviour in terms of being president.

“Raila has unsuccessfully contested for the presidency four times and he wants to try his last attempt and in this situation, it is Moi who could be his only saviour,” she added.

Mbuthia, however, says that it will be hard for Raila to convince Moi to endorse his 2022 presidential bid in-case he decides to contest.

She argues that with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi interested in the seat, it will be hard for the former Prime Minister to sale his agenda in Rift Valley as he contemplates making another attempt on the presidency.

The Raila- Moi meeting has awakened controversial political history shared between the two top politicians as 2022 succession debates intensify.
