Retired President Daniel Arap Moi is expected to play a key role in the 2022 presidential succession politics, political analysts Peter Ngure has said.
Ngure argues that Moi’s political expertise is being sought by politicians who have declared interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
According to Ngure, Moi holds key political secrets that are crucial in the 2022 general election.
He observes that the retired President opinion and endorsement could change the country’s political sphere for the next decade.
“Moi knows the political connections and secrets in these country and he remains the most experienced politician in the county’s history,” he said.
Ngure added that Moi’s 24 year rule that ended in 2002 was not a mean achievement and that everyone will be flocking to him for political advice ahead of 2022.
He adds that the close relationship between the Kenyatta’s, Moi’s and Odinga families will be crucial in determining the next president.
The analyst further says that Raila Odinga meeting with Moi should send a signal to other politicians eyeing the 2022 seat.
“The meeting between the two leaders was beyond a courtesy call and Kenyans should prepare for major political happenings ahead of 2022,” he said.
Raila met with Moi on Thursday and discussed matters national unity and reconciliation.
Their meeting continues to draw wide reactions across the political divide.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed the meeting terming it meaningless.
Kalonzo on Friday said he will also be seeking to visit the former president for political advise.
