There has been discussions about Mombasa being a super county.
This follows the declaration by Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero that Nairobi and Mombasa should be made super counties constitutionally.
However, many might look down upon Mombasa because of the traditional stereotypic view of Coastarians.
All Kenyans should know that Mombasa is the County to watch apart from Nairobi.
The coastal county is an economic gate to Kenya and the entire east Africa.
The Port of Mombasa runs our economy and those of neighbouring states like Uganda.
Bulky imports such as crude oil reach us through Mombasa. You can name others and the list is endless.
The fact that Mombasa is a center of tourism can not be ignored. Tourists flock the coastal town earning Kenya billions of shillings annually.
The same economic activity provides employment to thousands of Kenyans, reducing the rate of unemployment which is a major problem in the country.
Cultural diversity is another characteristic of the super county. Mombasa has several ethnic groups, races as well as religions. All the 42 tribes are represented in Mombasa.
Additionally, religious diversity is a characteristic of Mombasa County. Muslims, Christians, Buddhist, Hinduists and traditionalists worship freely.
Such a scenario is rarely witnessed in most counties. These are just some of the reasons why Mombasa is a super county.
Is there a reason why it should not be declared so constitutionally?
