Tourism CS Najib Balala has said that Mombasa risks losing the opportunity to host this year’s edition of International World Congress if the county government does not contain diseases outbreak and garbage mess. The 79th edition of the Congress, which is scheduled for October 17-21, is expected to attract dignitaries from different parts of the world when that time comes.

Speaking during the National Assembly Committee on Sports, Tourism and Culture induction retreat in Mombasa, Balala called upon Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho to pull up his socks in the fight to clean the county ahead of the Congress.

He challenged the second time governor not to engage in a political showdown at the expense of cleaning Mombasa, citing the outbreak of different diseases such as chikungunya and cholera.

“We have to clean up the city of Mombasa before October 17, 2018. We have to address the diseases like chikungunya and cholera. We can’t be having these diseases and expect people to come here. Let’s not play politics,” he said.

He also said that the Congress will not only benefit Coastal residents but also the entire nation. The county government of Mombasa has been under fierce criticisms following the outbreak of the diseases. The national government and other organizations have asked Joho to step his effort in cleaning the city.
