The Muslim community living in Uasin Gishu county have been challenged to be applying for advertised job opportunities.
Governor Jackson Mandago says a majority of the Muslims in the county have not been employed as they do not apply for the vacancies advertised.
“I want to refute claims that my administration has refused to employ Muslims, the problem is that they don’t apply on the same. Recently we advertised 32 positions in the cooperative department but I did not receive even a single application from them,” said governor Mandago after joining the Eldoret Muslim in Iftar.
“I want to urge those who are qualified when you hear there is a job vacancy apply and you never know what might happen since you may be selected. My aim is to include everyone in my government regardless of his ethnic, tribal or religious affiliations,” he added.
Mandago noted that he is ready and willing to work with the Muslim community.
Muslim leaders on their part applauded governor Mandago for being the first none Muslim governor in the county to join then in Iftar.
The county's Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini said the Muslim community applauds the governor for his move of bringing communities together and promised to continue to support him to ensure he accomplishes the promises he made to the electorates.
