Former Starehe MP aspirant Boniface Mwangi has broken silence over what befell some of the boys he went to school with during his childhood days.
The activist who has numerously been clobbered by police for his rights activism work says some of his close childhood friends died long time ago and some are languishing in some of Kenya's dreaded prisons.
He narrated on Saturday how his biological mother once testified against him in court sending him to remand, but added that she did it because of her love for him as she did not want him to engage with the wrong company while growing up.
"Growing up, my mother used to beat me whenever I did something wrong — like say stealing money to buy sweets. Years later, the same mother would testify against me in a children’s court — where I had been taken to after being arrested in the streets. By this time I had dropped out of school and was living in the streets," Mwangi said in a Facebook post.
"I was subsequently, transferred from a public primary school to an approved school. In the hood, when boys got circumcised, they became men. They could drink, smoke, and date girls. When l got initiated, l tried to chew miraa to show l was now a man."
He went on: "My friends who had it easy because they were circumcised and their parents went easy on them, gambled, drank and sowed their wild oats. That kind of lifestyle required quick money, so you either became a tout or a thief. Today, most of them are dead, some are in jail and others are helpless substance abusers."
He told President Uhuru Kenyatta to punish public servants abusing office power to steal public resources irrespective of how they may be close to him like his mother did to him.
