A Jubilee legislator has revealed plans to introduce a Bill in Parliament which if passed into law will spell stiff penalties for consumers of pornographic materials.
Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kosiytany on Sunday raised concern at the rate at which youth consume porn material saying the only way to deal with the vise is to introduce punitive measures against the users of the content criminalized by the Penal Code.
"It is sad that wherever you go porn consumption is the order of the day for the youth," the MP said in Turbo when he accompanied Deputy President William Ruto for a thanksgiving prayer.
"I am on a mission. Am planning to introduce a Bill and convince MPs to pass it into law such that if you are arrested publishing, consuming or selling pornography, you spend a long period in jail."
Under Kenyan laws, pornography is outlawed although no legislation spells stiff penalties for those found either selling, publishing or consuming porn material or content.
There is also currently no law that regulates internet usage which may have been used to contain the consumption of porn locally.
The only proposal which is yet to be passed into law is a 2017 proposed legislation that seeks to jail adults who distribute and share pornographic content with children for 25 years.
