Speaking on Tuesday during NTV’s AM Live show, Khalwale said the PSC positions attract high interest from MPs because of the huge allowances the members receive.

“People are fighting for PSC not because it is a committee that enhances the delivery of Parliament in its co-function of oversight and budget making but simply because when members of PSC sit, they attract a sitting allowance of Sh40,000. If they sit two or three three times, they can attract up to Sh120,000 a day,” said Khalwale.

The outspoken politician said the PSC positions are also coveted because the commission is responsible for determining the tenders for the multi-million projects that take place in Parliament.

“Some of the multi-million programmes that take place in Parliament are very lucrative and so they are fighting for that,” he added.

NASA submitted its final list of the PSC nominees on Monday.

National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi said they had nominated Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Homa Bay Women Rep Gladys Wanga and Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa to the commission.

The Makueni Senator swapped positions with his Vihiga counterpart George Khaniri, who will now take over as the Senate Minority Whip.

Mbadi said the list was final, adding that it overrides Wiper’s nomination of Borabu MP Ben Momanyi to the powerful commission.
