ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi was on Saturday crowned Luhya spokesperson at an event held at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega.
The event had been convened by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli to help 'give direction' to the Luhya community ahead of 2017 elections.
Curiously, however, less than a week after the development, leaders from the community are still divided over whether Mr Mudavadi deserved the title or not.
A section of MPs from the region, for instance, skipped the event.
As the Bukhungu Stadium ceremony rolled, the rebellious MPs including Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), David Were (Matungu), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Malulu Injendi (Malava), Benard Shinali (Ikolomani) were at Sugoi, at Deputy President Wiliam Ruto's home for his homecoming ceremony.
Budalang'i's Ababu Namwamba was also conspicuously absent at Bukhungu.
Ababu has of recent indicated moves of working with Jubilee in 2017.
Besides, the Western Elders' Council and the Luhya Elders' Forum have also broken ranks over Mudavadi's elevation to the post.
The problem is that a section of elected leaders and elders from the region support Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and have vowed not to rally support for Mr Mudavadi.
Had Mudavadi's elevation to the post of Luhya Spokesperson attracted support from all Western leaders and elders, the former presidential candidate would have been the happiest man by now.
