Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi was on Saturday, December 31, 2016 crowned as the Luhya community spokesman.
The function, graced by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli was held at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.
The former Deputy Prime Minister trounced Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, Cyrus Jirongo and former Speaker Kenneth Marende to clinch the title.
Mudavadi had 39 per cent popularity, Wetangula and Oparanya 30 per cent each, while other candidates had 1 per cent.
The poll to find out the most popular Luhya leader was conducted by the University of Nairobi, Department of Political Science, Public Administration and Economic Studies.
Mudavadi, while accepting the role, vowed to unite the community and serve the people.
"I accept this honor with humility and with commitment. I accept to be your leader so that we work together and grow Kenya together," he said.
He added, "I want us to come together and we become one. Help me I can't walk alone. Even footballers cannot walk alone."
