In a video on his YouTube channel, Manyora said Mudavidi’s decision to skip NASA leader Raila Odinga’s swearing-in ceremony was a bold statement indicating that he will soon leave the opposition coalition.

“The events of January 30, 2018, made a statement that left no doubt in my mind that Musalia had begun looking at things differently from his colleagues, specifically different from the way Raila was seeing things,” said Manyora.

“Skipping the swearing-in was a strong statement that henceforth he may not be singing the same tune as Raila,” he added.

Manyora further argued that Mudavadi’s recent remarks that NASA should focus on how to win the 2022 poll is evidence enough that he is planning to ditch the coalition.

“The most recent pronouncement that NASA should forget about a fresh election and focus on 2022 suggests strongly that Mudavadi is parting ways with NASA and Raila,” said Manyora.

The political analyst also argued that Mudavadi had been wooed to ditch NASA in order to receive backing from the Mt Kenya region in the 2022 polls.

“Mudavadi has swallowed a bait from the mountains. There is this narrative from the mountainous jubilants that with 2017 behind them they are beginning to rethink their support for William Ruto and are whispering to Mudavadi quietly that you are the man our people will support in 2022. All you need to do is be the reasonable gentleman you have always been known to be and part ways with the radical Raila,” said Manyora.

Manyora, however, urged Mudavadi to rethink the decision, arguing that the move will taint his image.

“Do not be seen to be fighting Raila. Whatever chance you have for the future will disappear into thin air if you are perceived to be fighting Raila,” said Manyora.
