Former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has asked Mombasa governor and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.
Mung’aro wants the two governors to stop being rebellious and support Uhuru’s administration for the benefit of the people.
Speaking to journalists in Mombasa Town on Sunday, Mung'aro who was recently appointed as Lands Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) said that it is time Governor Joho and Kingi put aside their political interests and worked with Jubilee.
Mung’aro observed that the coast region will gain more if its leaders rally and support Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
“Time for political chest thumping is over and I urge governor Joho, Kingi and other leaders who have been rebellious against Jubilee to soften up for the sake of the people,” he said.
Mung'aro said that the interests of the Coast region can only be realized if there is unity among elected leaders.
The former Kilifi North MP who unsuccessfully, contested for the Kilifi governor seat in last year’s general election, said that Coast unity is a must moving forward.
Mung’aro hinted that that a regional meeting that will bring all elected leaders across the political divide is in the pipeline.
Last week several Coast politicians allied to NASA among them Malindi Township MP Aisha Jumwa, Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja and Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo declared support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.
The politicians also vowed to support Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
The Coast region is considered an opposition stronghold but political pundits say that it’s slowly shifting and aligning itself to the ruling government.
