[Photo: nation.co.ke]Former Meru Governor Peter Munya who was thrashed badly by the current Governor Kiraitu Murungi has joined Nasa and promised to deliver Meru votes to the coalition’s flagbearer Raila Odinga as the country braces for a repeat presidential election.Munya who was received by Odinga Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula at Capitol Hill in Nairobi on Monday, said he wanted to be on the 'right side of history' and that he had defected alongside his Party of National Unity’s leadership."My election was stolen and I cannot join those who stole my election. Efforts to put the country on the path to democracy has been rolled back by purveyors of impunity," Munya said. However, Munya's defection has been dismissed by Meru's Jubilee leadership as 'inconsequential' or a case of a 'jilted lover'."He has dug his own political grave because there is no 'Mumeru' who will support him while he is in Nasa. It will be a further disaster in his political career in Meru," Murungi said. Some equate Munya's defection to Koigi Wamwere's similar move after he lost badly the Nakuru senatorial bid during the Jubilee party primaries on April. Koigi who allegedly garnered 17 votes, had promised to deliver 1 million Kikuyu votes. "The fact that Munya couldn't even defend his own seat on August 8 elections, renders his promise to deliver the Meru vote to NASA hollow. This is hot air by a jilted lover. He will be more of a liability to Nasa than asset because he is looking for political relevance via NASA," a critic wrote on Meru Political Forum Facebook group.Antony Mugambi, still on the same group, saw Munya's move as political suicide."Munya is a dead man walking. This is the worst decision ever by Munya. However, this man was always a NASA sympathizer and it was just a matter of time before he pulled back his mask. I am not worried though because electoral losers rarely make impact in the immediate aftermath," he said.It remains to be seen what value Munya's defection will add to NASA.
