The outspoken Senator stirred emotions on social media when he said there is no problem with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga swearing-in himself as president.
Murkomen, who is also the Senate majority leader tweeted on December 9 saying that if Raila’s move to swear himself in would end the ongoing dialogue debate, then he should be allowed to go ahead.
Raila informed supporters that he will assume office as The People’s President on December 12. He said his party will use the results from the August 8 presidential elections.
Raila was to be sworn in on November 28, on the day President Uhuru was inaugurated for his second and final term. He then postponed the ceremony until Tuesday, when the country will be celebrating Jamhuri Day.
NASA has refused to recognize the October 26 presidential repeat polls citing electoral illegalities and irregularities.
Attorney General Githu Muigai on December 6 notified NASA that swearing-in Raila will be unconstitutional and its charges will be treason, which is punishable by death. NASA, however, stands its ground and insists on carrying on the task.
Murkomen in his tweet said that swearing-in Raila as president would not make him a president, but it was welcome if it would silence the talks about having dialogue.
"If Tinga is allowed to swear himself into some President of Some club, NGO or organization what’s the problem? And suppose he purports to be Kenyan President he is not what harm will it cause? Let him be what he wants to be then we end Dialogue debate he will be satisfied. Period,"
