Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has attributed Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama's defection from Wiper Party to the decision by the outfit not to award the Senator's "cronies" the party ticket.

Speaking on Tuesday, Mbui claimed that Muthama had plotted to control Machakos county by installing a governor who he can easily influence.

“What the senator wanted was to have control of Machakos for his own selfish interests. He wanted to have a stooge for governor so that he is able to get access to the county resources. Now that this has failed, he has turned his guns on Kalonzo,” he noted.

The legislator further took a swipe on Muthama's decision not to seek re-election during the forthcoming general elections, saying the move is aimed at depleting Wiper Party of its numbers.

“When he realised that his preferred candidate for the position of governor, Bernard Kiala, won’t make it, he started scheming on how to sink the party by ensuring it lacks a governor candidate and a senator candidate,” he noted.

Muthama's defection from Wiper precedes that of Kitui Senator David Musila, who also left the party accusing it's leadership of rigging him out during the primaries in his attempt to unseat governor Julius Malombe.
