If any Kenyan including you will randomly be asked “Which governor will retain his post without much strain after the 2017 General elections?” without any calculations and thinking they will broadly answer Dr Alfred Mutua, the Machakos Governor.
This is due to the rankings that have placed the governor number one as the most performing three years in a row.
He has also publicly announced that his leadership is seeking to take people out of poverty and even started a movement “the Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement” a movement which he says is made to push for development to the mwananchi the fastest way possible.
Now all said and done Dr Alfred Mutua might be the most vulnerable governor to lose his seat even before the votes are counted on the day of voting.
These are reasons that may take Dr Mutua home without much strain.
Machakos City: On assuming office Dr Alfred Mutua launched the Machakos City which many saw it as a plan to destabilize the establishment of the Konza City. President Uhuru Kenyatta was even the in attendance during the launching of the city which up to date nothing has ever started. His opponents might use this to level Mutua as a man who never means his words.
Water distribution: Ukambani region is one of the regions in the country that desperately need water supply. Dr Mutua launched a project in which every homestead in Machakos had to be supplied with water and even have a shower which has never happened.
Party issues: The Machakos governor is said to have fallen out with the party that sponsored him to clinching the seat and is now seen to be working with the government which his father party is opposed to. Many people in the region are supporters of the Wiper party which may not sponsor him again thus losing voters.
Youth employment: Around the start of 2016 Dr Afred Mutua spent almost a month in the middle east and on coming back he announced publicly that he was out hunting jobs for the youths among other things. He said that he got the position and over 2000 youths are set to be employed. Up to date no any records of any person employed under the initiative.
Mutua/Kalonzo fight: It is assumed that the Machakos governor has been seeking the Ukambani region kingpin ship which is currently assumed to be held by his party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Although Mutua has denied the claims saying that he is just pushing for development, many people are made to believe he is brewing up the fight which might cost him big time in 2017.
With those and many other reasons Machakos county Governor Dr Alfred Mutua who is the most celebrated governor in the country will have a very hard time wooing voters to vote him back.
