Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua will retain the top seat in the August 8 polls despite the stiff competition he is facing from rivals, political analyst Peter Ngure has observed.

The Kiambu based analyst says that while Mutua faces stiff competition from Wiper’s Wavinya Ndeti and others, he will win re-election based on his political tricks.

Ngure notes that Mutua’s popularity through his Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party cannot be ignored.

He adds that governor Mutua has capitalized on the alleged rivalry and disgruntlement in the Kalonzo Musyoka led Wiper party to woo for support and dominate the Kamba region.

In an interview on Monday, Ngure said that Mutua’s political game cannot be predicted and that his rivals should brace up for a tough battle.

He noted that Mutua’s Public Relations tactics and alleged propaganda concepts will help him retain the seat in the August 8 polls.

“Mutua’s experience in communication and especially Public Relations will work for him in wooing for support in regards to the August 8 polls,” he said.

The analyst also said that the alleged fall out between Kalonzo and his close allies has given Mutua a political lifeline.

Ngure noted that Wiper party politicians, especially in Machakos, are not united. The analyst said that the Machakos wiper camp is divided and that their division is giving Mutua an easy run.

On Monday, governor Mutua hit out at Wiper Party accusing it of allegedly 'doctoring' results in its gubernatorial nominations in favour of Wavinya Ndeti.

Mutua said that Wiper claims that over 300,000 people voted for the gubernatorial nomination are false. The governor claimed that Wiper’s gubernatorial nomination results were meant to mislead Machakos locals.

Wavinya was declared the winner in the Wiper gubernatorial nomination on Sunday. She garnered 299,132 votes beating her rival Bernard Kiala who garnered 4,663 votes.

Kiala has since disputed the nomination results. Wavinya Ndeti has picked East Africa Legislative MP Peter Mathuki as her running mate and vowed to send Mutua packing in the August 8 polls.
