Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's 2022 presidential bid is in limbo after majority of leaders from the Ukambani region endorsed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the same position ahead of the polls.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Mutua is going to have it rough convincing the Kamba community to back his 2022 presidential bid.
Ngure argues Kalonzo's backing by Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and her Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana has completely locked out Mutua in his presidential bid.
He said both Ngilu and Kibwana command huge following in Ukambani and that Mutua's failure to convince them to work with him is a set back to his 2022 bid.
In an interview on Monday, Ngure said that Kalonzo is now the official Kamba presidential candidate in 2022.
"Governor Mutua should have lobbied for Ngilu and Kibwana's backing to have a guarantee in 2022," Ngure said.
The analyst said Mutua will have it difficult selling his presidential agenda to the Kamba residents and Kenyans at large.
"A presidential candidate must have the home backing to solidify his or her candidature, something that Governor Mutua might not have moving forward," he added.
Ngure said Mutua's constant attack on Kalonzo will completely send him to political oblivion once his governorship term comes to an end in 2022.
A section of Kamba leaders endorsed Kalonzo's 2022 bid.
The leaders equally confirmed Kalonzo as the Kamba king pin at the meeting held in Matungulu, Machakos County.
The leaders including Governor Charity Ngilu said Kalonzo has experience to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Mutua snubbed the meeting stating he was not properly consulted.
The Machakos governor also claimed the meeting was a Wiper party affair and not the Kamba community.
Mutua has declared interest in the 2022 presidential election on his Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
