Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is one of the best performing governors in Kenya.
However, some of his haters and those opposed to his ideologies call him names like 'Kavaluku' which means the hare
I sought to find out why they call him that and this is the tale behind it.
"An elephant one day found the hare stranded on the riverbanks worried how to cross the deep river to reach the other side. But since the elephant is a strong animal which cannot be swept easily, out of generosity it decided to help the hare cross the river. On reaching the other side, the hare started mocking and insulting the elephant telling it that it has done nothing. The hare was unthankful to the elephant."
The tale was laid down well by Benga artist Ken Wa Maria who sings about 'kavaluku' na 'nzou' [hare and the elephant]. Though here, he was terming to Kativui one of his band worker who insulted him after giving him experience in music.
This now explains it better.
Mutua was a Wiper candidate before he formed his Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
After becoming the Machakos governor, Mutua became rebellious to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and since then they have never been in good terms.
Kalonzo diehards in Ukambani use the term 'kavaluku' to show how Mutua was unthankful to the former Vice President after using his party to ascend to the top county job.
