Mvita MP Abdulwasmad Nassir was part of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga delegation that visited retired president Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarak home on Thursday.

Nassir's presence at the meeting was politically symbolic according to political analyst Peter Ngure.

Ngure notes that Nassir was representing Mombasa governor Hassan Joho who is out of the country.

He said that Nassir, a close ally of governor Joho is part of the 2022 succession politics and is one of the most trusted Raila's Coast allies.

"The Mvita MP was not part of the meeting between Raila and Moi by mistake, it is a political game that is being played out in the 2022 succession," he said on Thursday.

Ngure said that Raila is likely to hand over the political mantle to a politician from Coast region should he decide to quit politics now.

"The Coast region has been loyal to Odinga and he might want to endorse one of the region politician's as his successor," he added.

There have been speculation that Governor Joho is the one likely to succeed Odinga should he retire now.

The Raila-Moi surprise meeting on Thursday continues to draw reaction's with political analysts terming it part of Raila's strategy to seek support ahead of 2022.

Odinga and Moi are said to have discussed on matters national unity and reconciliation.

The meeting with the Moi family comes a month after Odinga met with President Uhuru Kenyatta and agreed to unite the country.
