Mvita MP Abdulwasmad Nassir is among top politicians on the cards who are likely to succeed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in 2022.
Governor Joho is serving his second and last term in office.
The ODM governor has declared interest in the 2022 presidential seat.
As Joho serves his final term, there are claims that he could endorse Mvita MP for the top county job.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Nassir is the person to succeed Joho.
According to the analyst, Nassir is slowly being groomed as the Mombasa political kingpin after Joho.
He observes that Nassir’s recent election as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Investment Committee is part of the political grooming.
The analsyst adds that Nassir is a smart politician and strategist who has the capability and potential to take over from Joho in 2022.
“He (Nassir) is silent but knows how to make political strategies something that is very key for any politician or leader,” he said.
On Thursday, Nassir was part of Raila’s delegation that visited former retired president Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru.
The MP has since defended the meeting dismissing claims that it was focused on 2022 succession politicians.
Other Mombasa politicians likely to succeed governor Joho in 2022 are Mishi Mboko (Likoni MP), Ali Mbogo (Kisauni MP) and Mohamed Ali (Nyali MP).
