Often, people get pissed off by the law and say is an ass. And I am not trying to be vulgar here, the ass referred here is the English version to mean a donkey and not the 'digital meaning of an ass'.

As such, let us keep that meaning behind us (no pun intended).

The reason the law is likened to an ass (donkey) is that it beats logic and common sense, sometimes!

Just like the many ways a donkey beats common sense, (ask those who own one more about it).

Nothing captures the assness (is there such an adjective?) of the law like a case that was prosecuted before a Nakuru court on Monday.

The case involved a journalist, a security guard and a court. A Nakuru-based journalist, Naomi Kago, had sued a security guard by the name Evans Omwenga for allegedly stealing her Sh150, 000.

The case was prosecuted before chief magistrate Josephat Kalo.

According to the charge sheet, Omwenga stole the cash at an office where he was in charge of security on July 2017.

To cut the long story short, Omwenga pleaded guilty to the charge.

He told the court that he stole the Sh150,000 because of poverty.

The court, with all its wisdom, fined the accused Sh100, 000 or he serves one year in prison.

You steal Sh150, 000 but you are fined Sh100,000, so you are left with Sh50, 000 to run errands?!

And the case ends just like that, nothing for the plaintiff?!!

The law is truly an assss!!!
