The leaders of the National Super Alliance (NASA) did not take part in the demonstrations against the Independent electoral and Commission (IEBC) because of security concerns, a senator has revealed.
According to Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, the leaders of the opposition could not take part in the protests against the dismissal of some of the officials at the commission when they have no security.
Speaking during an interview with a local daily, Mutula said that opposition’s security has been cut down to one police officer, which is not enough for them to join their supporters on the streets.
“We did not attend the demonstrations because we did not have enough security; they have further cut down on MPs security leaving one police per person,” he said, as quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.
The lawmaker also argued that leaders of the Jubilee side have no reason to claim that they will compel the opposition leader, Raila Amolo Odinga, who is taking a fourth stab at the nation’s top seat to take part in the fresh election when that time comes. He also said that Raila has already being included in the presidential race as a registered candidate.
